Reimagining Technical Standards for Inclusive Medical Education: A Workshop Webinar - October 4

Includes a Live Web Event on 10/04/2023 at 3:30 PM (EDT)

As medical schools expand their diversity initiatives to embrace individuals with disabilities, the need to revisit and revise technical standards has become paramount. To guide you on this transformative journey, Docs with Disabilities and AAMC are excited to present: "Reimagining Technical Standards for Inclusive Medical Education: A Workshop Webinar."

Building upon the foundation laid by our 2020 webinar, "Aligning Technical Standards with 21st Century Medical Education," this workshop-meets-webinar goes beyond the 'why' to delve into the 'how' of reimagining and revising technical standards (TS).

Join this 90-minute session to receive a comprehensive overview of best practices for technical standards, the step-by-step process of revising them, and an in-depth exploration of technical standards domains. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to actively engage in the revision process, empowering you to make your institution's technical standards more inclusive and accommodating.

  • Domain-Specific Insights: Gain a solid understanding of domain-specific concerns within technical standards, ensuring that no aspect of inclusivity is overlooked.
  • Inclusive Language: Discover alternative, inclusive language that can be integrated into your technical standards to foster a more welcoming and accessible learning environment.
  • Hands-On Revision: Participants will actively work on revising their institution's technical standards during the workshop, guided by experts in the field.

At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will have acquired the knowledge and tools necessary to:

  • Identify Domain-Specific Concerns: Recognize and address domain-specific concerns within TS that may impact learners with disabilities.
  • Revise for Inclusivity: Effectively revise their institution's TS to remove potentially discriminatory language and emphasize equitable standards that promote a diverse and accessible educational experience.
