Away Rotations 101 for MD Advisors: Preparing Students for the 2024 Application Season - October 26

This 75-minute session addresses the process for choosing and applying to away rotations and offers perspectives from advisors on the decision-making process. The webinar is designed to help you support your students in developing an effective away rotation application strategy and to share timely rotation-related information.

Jenny Soep, MD

Dr. Soep is a pediatric rheumatologist at University of Colorado/Children’s Hospital Colorado. She has been the pediatric clerkship director since 2008 and the pediatric fourth year director since 2009. She is an active participant and past leader of the Council of Medical Student Educators in Pediatrics (COMSEP) Career Advising Collaborative. She has advised hundreds of students pursuing careers in pediatrics and related fields. In the past year, she has branched out beyond pediatrics as she has taken on the role of Director of Career Advising for all students at University of Colorado.

Michael Jones, MD

Dr. Michael P. Jones is the Vice Chair for Education and Residency Program Director in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Jacobi and Montefiore in the Bronx, New York. He completed his emergency medicine residency training at Jacobi and Montefiore Medical Centers, where he was Chief Resident. Prior to becoming a physician, he was an Emergency Medical Technician in New York City most prominently with the Central Park Medical Unit, where he now serves as the Medical Director. He was a rescue worker on September 11th at the World Trade Center and during the August 2003 Great Northeast Blackout. In addition, he serves as a member of the board of directors of the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council of New York City. His life’s passion is to travel, often by foot, and he has hiked the Scottish Highlands, throughout Italy, Turkey, the Andes, and Africa, summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro. Most recently, he trekked to the Tiger’s Nest and throughout the Himalayas in Bhutan.

Kelly Matthews

Kelly Matthews is a Lead Advisor at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) and has been in this position since 2015. She is one of thirteen advisors across the state of Indiana who serves as a primary contact for a cohort of medical students from the point of matriculation through graduation. As Lead Advisor, Kelly supports students in their personal and professional development and meets with them at least three times each year throughout their medical school experience. These meetings involve topics around four pillars: academic advising, career development, wellness and connection. Kelly is passionate about supporting students and helping them achieve their personal, professional and academic goals.
