AAMC Webinar on the End of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency - April 28

Please join the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) on April 28, 2023, at 1:00pm (EDT) for a 75-minute webinar to discuss changes that will occur when the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) ends on May 11, 2023.

During the PHE, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and other Agencies have used emergency waiver authorities to establish regulatory flexibilities for providers that enable access to health care.  Topics that will be discussed include the Hospital Without Walls program, Acute Hospital Care at Home, telehealth, behavioral health, virtual supervision of residents and other personnel, Drug Enforcement Agency proposed changes on prescribing controlled substances, graduate medical education, and more.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions once the presentation has concluded.

The webinar is free to AAMC members; advanced registration is required.

Gayle Lee
Director, Physician Payment Policy and Quality

Gayle Lee is the Director of Physician Payment Policy and Quality at the Association of American Medical Colleges. Ms. Lee has an expansive background in health care law, regulation, advocacy, and policy. She is responsible for educating and advocating on federal regulations and policies that impact teaching hospitals and physicians. Prior to joining AAMC, Ms. Lee served as Senior Director of Health Finance and Quality at the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) where her key areas of responsibility involved Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA and health care reform regulations impacting rehabilitation. Before APTA, Ms. Lee was the Assistant Counsel and Policy Coordinator at the American Rehabilitation Association where she worked on issues that affected rehabilitation hospitals and units. Ms. Lee received her law degree at the Washington College of Law at the American University DC and completed her undergraduate work at Pennsylvania State University located in University Park, Pennsylvania.

Mary Mullaney
Director, Hospital Payment Policies

Mary Mullaney leads the AAMC’s portfolio on hospital payment policies focusing on Medicare reimbursement to hospitals. Other portfolio items include regulatory policy issues impacting prescription drugs, including the 340B Drug Pricing Program, and coverage and access under Medicaid and commercial health insurance. Prior to joining the AAMC, Mary worked for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Office of Legislation. She is a former critical care nurse. Mary holds a BA from the University of Maryland, a BS in nursing from the Johns Hopkins University and an MPH in health policy from The George Washington University.

Bradley Cunningham
Sr.  Policy & Regulatory Analyst, GME

Bradley Cunningham is a Senior Policy and Regulatory Analyst at the Association of American Medical Colleges, working within the Health Care Affairs cluster. Bradley completed law school in Washington, DC and since joining the AAMC in 2021, focuses on policy issues related to graduate medical education.

Ki Stewart
Policy & Regulatory Analyst, Physician Payment and Quality

Ki Stewart is a Policy and Regulatory Analyst specializing in physician payment and quality policy at the Association of American Medical Colleges. Her portfolio includes Medicare payment, telehealth, behavioral health, veterans affairs, and other issues. Prior to joining the AAMC, Ki worked as a federal contractor for the Department of Justice in the Civil department, combatting Medicare fraud and abuse. She has also completed an externship with The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation. Ki earned her J.D. with a concentration in Health Law from the University of Maryland Francis Carey School of Law and is a member of the D.C. Bar. She earned her B.A. in Political Science from American University.

Katie Gaynor
Policy & Regulatory Analyst, Hospital Payment

Katie Gaynor is a Hospital Policy and Regulatory Analyst at the Association of American Medical Colleges. Her current portfolio focuses on hospital payment policies, more specifically the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) and the Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS). Prior to joining the AAMC, Katie worked as a Regulatory Affairs Coordinator at a boutique consulting firm focusing on FDA issues related to medical devices. Katie also focused on policy issues affecting health systems during her time as a Government Relations Project Coordinator at ASHP (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists). Katie earned her B.A. in Policial Science with a Minor in Biology from the University of Alabama.
