In this session, we will review principles of educational scholarship and how to frame and prepare scholarly teaching as potential submissions to medical education journals. This session will include an interactive activity where participants will be asked to choose among options to identify the most promising submissions.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the benefit of publishing educational scholarship
- Identify educational innovations appropriate for submission to a journal

Grace C. Huang, MD
Dean for Faculty Affairs
Professor of Medicine Harvard Medical School
Dr. Grace C. Huang is a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and a hospitalist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston. She received her undergraduate degree at Stanford University and attended medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, followed by an internal medicine residency at BIDMC.
Dr. Huang spent several years holding various leadership roles overseeing faculty professional development and promotion, as Vice Chair for Career Development and Mentoring for the Department of Medicine at BIDMC, Director of the Office of Academic Careers and Faculty Development, Director of the Rabkin Fellowship in Medical Education, and Co-Director of the BIDMC Academy. On July 1, 2021, she became the Dean for Faculty Affairs at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Huang has been involved with MedEdPORTAL since its inception in 2005, having served for many years as an associate editor and an editorial board member before becoming editor-in-chief in 2017. She has won many national awards for peer review, in addition to publishing extensively in the medical education literature on procedural training, critical thinking, simulation, and high-value care. Dr. Huang also serves on the editorial board of Academic Medicine.
