Heather Hamby, MPH (Moderator)
Executive Associate Dean and Chief Business Officer for Emory University School of Medicine
Heather H. Hamby, MPH, is Executive Associate Dean and Chief Business Officer for Emory University School of Medicine and Associate Vice President for Health Center Integration for the Woodruff Health Sciences Center. Ms. Hamby is the primary liaison between the School of Medicine and its clinical affiliates, such as Grady Health System and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. In addition to her leadership roles in the School of Medicine, she also serves as Chief Business Officer for the Emory Clinic and Emory Specialty Associates, the largest, most comprehensive group practice in Georgia.
During her 20 plus years of service at Emory, Ms. Hamby has served in other key roles, including Vice Chair of Administration and Executive Administrator for the Department of Medicine; Executive Administrator for the Department of Surgery; and Executive Administrator for the Emory Transplant Center. Her administrative leadership roles have included strategic planning, program development, operational and fiscal management, business leadership, and operational engineering.
She has active participation in several community and professional organizations, including 2006 Woodruff Leadership Fellow in Emory’s Woodruff Health Sciences Center, Leadership Atlanta class of 2016, and former co-chair and Vice president of local elementary school parent-teacher association.
Ms. Hamby received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and her Master of Public Health degree in health policy and management from the Rollins School of Public Health.
Michael Mahoney, BHA, RRT, RPFT
Vice President of Clinic Operations at Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group
Mike Mahoney is the Vice President of Clinic Operations at Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group (LLUFMG). Mr. Mahoney started his professional career driving tractor trailers across the country. After years of driving over the road Mike decided to return to school and become a Respiratory Therapist. Through a series of opportunities Mike oversaw multiple departments in hospital settings, and then began a career overseas that included being the administrator of outpatient Medical, Dental and Eye clinics in Guam and Palau, and serving on the board of directors of a Dental and Eye clinic in Saipan. This was followed up with serving for two years as the Administrator of Wazir Akbar Khan Hospital in Kabul Afghanistan.
For the last ten years Mike has worked for LLUFMG in the oversight of operations of the outpatient clinics. Included in Mike’s role with LLUFMG is the oversight of the contract with the Veterans Administration allowing for the delivery of primary care to 27,000 veterans seen in five Community Based Outpatient Clinics. In addition to his day to day duties at Loma Linda Mike currently serves as a board member of the Guam SDA Clinic in Tamuning Guam, and Haiti Adventist Hospital in Port Au Prince Haiti.
Senior Procurement Analyst-Principal Negotiator, VA Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs
Caroline Peabody is a FAC-C Level III certified Senior Procurement Analyst with over 15 years’ experience in various senior contacting roles with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veteran Health Administration. She currently works as a Principal Negotiator with the Medical Sharing Affiliate Office where she is responsible for leading VHA sole source negotiations with affiliates. In her previous position with MSO, she established VHA’s Healthcare Contracting Training Program supporting COs, CORs, facility, VISN and VHA leadership. In that role she completed the development, instructional design and content of three resident courses and over twenty web-based training classes. She has authored numerous VHA healthcare contracting publications including The VHA Affiliate Guide to Health-Care Contracting, The Healthcare Contracting Planning Guide for Acquisition Teams and healthcare contract planning templates used by over 3000 contacting, VISN and VA facility staff.
From 2008-2011 she also worked for the Army and San Diego City College as adjunct Professor of Finance. During her tenure, she delivered financial management classes to over 10,000 soldiers. Before joining the VA, she managed her own business for almost a decade supporting military friendly vendors in achieving contracts with the DoD and other federal agencies. She has been recognized by the VA and DoD for her work on behalf of soldiers and veterans being awarded The Army’s Patriotic Civilian Service Award, National Military Family Association’s Very Important Patriot Award and the DoD’s Seven Seals Award. She is a graduate of the VA Acquisition Academy’s Senior Acquisition Leadership Training Program, holds an BA in Sociology and a Master’s in Organizational Management.
