Drs Stokes, McFadden, and Hargarten will be sharing and discussing their curricular works. This thematic session is designed to highlight several innovative approaches to teaching and learning and is offered as a supplement to our long-standing Building Better Curriculum series for health professional curriculum leaders. Stephen Hargarten, MD, MPH

Professor, Emergency Medicine, Senior Injury and Policy Advisor

Comprehensive Injury Center, Medical College of Wisconsin

Dr. Hargarten is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and the Founding and former Director of the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Comprehensive Injury Center, where he currently serves as the Senior Injury and Policy Advisor. He was the Founding Dean at the Medical College of Wisconsin, (MCW).

In 2011, Dr. Hargarten was elected to the Institute of Medicine (IOM), now the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) of the National Academy of Sciences and is a former member of its Global Forum on Violence Prevention and its Global Health Board. Dr. Hargarten currently serves on the executive committee of the Transportation Research Board of the NASEM and on the Community Preventive Services Task Force of the CDC.

Nikia R McFadden, MD, MAS

Chief General Surgery Resident

University of California, Davis

Nikia R McFadden is a chief surgery resident at University of California, Davis. She is particularly interested in healthcare disparities, firearm violence, and injury prevention. She plans to pursue a career in academic trauma and emergency general surgery.

Sarah Stokes, MD

Surgery Resident

University of California, Davis

Sarah Stokes is a surgery resident at University of California, Davis. She has a particular interest in pediatric trauma and has carried out research in injury prevention and firearm safety. She is also interested in surgical education and serves as the chief education resident for her residency program.
