Dr. Katie Stanton-Maxey
Acute Care Surgeon
Smith Level I Shock Trauma Center, Eskenazi Health
Dr. Katie Stanton-Maxey is an acute care surgeon at the Smith Level I Shock Trauma Center at Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis, Indiana, where her clinical practice includes elective and emergency general surgery, trauma and surgical intensive care. She is the Director of Undergraduate Surgery Education for the Department of Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine. This role involves directing the required surgery clerkship across nine campus sites for >360 students per year, managing multiple advanced level surgery courses including a comprehensive preparation for surgical internship course, supporting the IUSM surgery student interest group and individually advising 30-50 students per class considering or applying to surgical residency.
Jennifer Serfin, MD, FACS

Dr Serfin currently serves as the chair of the APDS Recruitment Task Force and DIO at Samaritan Health Services in Corvallis, OR. She holds a strong interest in the transition from undergraduate to graduate medical education and the residency recruitment process. She has been involved in multiple projects focusing on the impact of program signaling, geographic preferences, as well as upcoming work focusing on program signals relating to match success. She is currently pursuing a Master of Education for Healthcare Professionals and has dedicated herself to the training of residents and students in the field of general surgery with a focus on rural practice.
